Officers were dispatched to Coronation Avenue at 10.33 a.m. on November 25th in response to reports of a sudden death.
Emergency personnel responded and discovered 57-year-old Stephen deceased inside a property.
Stephen died as a result of multiple abdominal injuries and a scalp injury, according to a Home Office post mortem examination.
A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene. Wayne Dawson, of Burnley Road, Padiham, was charged with murder on Friday, following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.
He was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear before Lancashire magistrates this weekend.
"Although we have now charged a man, our investigation into Stephen's death continues," said DCI Allen Davies of the Force Major Investigation Team. I'd like to invite anyone with information that could help our investigation to come forward. "We are still looking for anyone who saw or has footage of him in the West View Terrace area of Padiham between 10 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. on November 24." Stephen's family has been kept up to date on the latest developments, and my thoughts are with them."
Stephen's family said in a tribute after his death, "He was very well known, always out walking Murphy, his dog."
Stephen was always chatty and pleasant. He was very well-liked."
Anyone with information that could help our investigation should call 101 and reference log 410 from November 25, 2021.
