Police at the scene said the driver did stop. The walker was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious head and leg injures. The road was sealed off by Police for a number of hours with a police car blocking each end.
Shocked homeowners on the road have said that the road is a ratrun and an accident waiting to happen. One resident said, “There are skid marks up and down the road I have lost count of the number of times vehicle have nearly hit each other or people trying to cross the road. They use it as a rat run to the miss the traffic to get to the Farnham bypass.”
Police closed the road for a number of hours whilst Crash scene investigators carried out skid tests on the vehicle and measurements on the road.
Police say they have spoken to the driver of the vehicle but would not confirm if he had been arrested for any offences. The road reopened just after 1.30am on Wednesday morning.
