Fire crews are dealing with a huge blaze which broke out at the factory at Medina Village in Bridge Road in East Cowes this lunchime.
Seven Fire appliances are at the scene at some 40 firefighters are tackle the blaze that broke out just around lunch this afternoon.(Monday)
Residents have reported hearing explosions being heard in Cowes – a 200m cordons has been put in place surrounding Medina Yard. Many Homes are being evacuated as firefighters continue to tackle Cowes workshop blaze.
The Red Funnel Isle of Wight Ferries have cancelled services whilst fire crews tackle the blaze. All St. Andrews street has been evacuated. An Ambulance spokesperson said there are no reported casualties, but an officer is on stand by at the scene. The blaze started at TJ Motors.
The Chairman of Cowes Carnival which is located next door to the car workshop, has confirmed that the charity has taken a massive hit because of the blaze.There are fears two floats have been destroyed. Eyewitnesses say small explosions are still being heard with firefighters taking breathing apparatus into the site. Up to fifty fibre glass boats and a number of cars are involved. A spokesman for Isle of Wight and Rescue service say there are highly explosive cylinders on site.
