Police have placed a Salisbury street on lockdown this evening.
Police Paramedics and an air ambulance have called to the Market Square.
Officers have sealed off Catherine Street and a cordon has been placed around Charlie’s Store.
The Air ambulance landed in Market Square just after 9,30pm on Monday evening.
Two people are understood to have been involved in a stabbing.
Wiltshire Police have confirmed they have made an arrest:A man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Salisbury this evening.
We were called to Catherine Street in the city at around 8.40pm today (20/05/19) by the ambulance service who were treating a man in his 40s who had suffered multiple puncture wounds.
He has been airlifted to Southampton Hospital in a serious condition.
Officers were at the scene within four minutes and made an arrest shortly afterwards.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is currently in police custody.
Det Sgt Kerry Lawes, from Salisbury CID, said: “We responded swiftly to this incident, made an arrest, and at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this attack.
“However, the area was busy and we know there will have been people who may have either witnessed the assault itself or who saw something in the aftermath which could assist with our enquiries.
