BREAKING FAREHAM

Concrete munching machines set to demolish footbridge on the busy M27 motorway

A major road closure will come into force next month so a footbridge across the busy M27 can be munched and removed overnight

The M27 motorway is going to be closed on 14 and 15 June 2019 from Junction 9 to 11 for 24 hours.

The closure is part of the upgrade of the M27 between Junctions 4 and 11 to smart motorway standard, Highways England will demolish North Fareham Footbridge, between junction 10 and junction 11.

This work will require the closure of the M27 between Junctions 9 and 11 from 9.00pm on Friday 14 June, through until 9.00pm on Saturday 15 June 2019.

During this time the planned diversion route will run be along the A27, starting at Junction 9 and ending at Junction 11.

Contractors demolishing the footbridge will be using machines known as ‘concrete
munchers’, which will be situated on the M27 carriageway. Once the footbridge has been
‘munched’, and the rubble has been removed, the closure will be removed and the motorway will re-open again.

The demolition of the footbridge will be noisy and may cause disturbance
