A joint fire investigation has been launched following a property blaze at a house on Cray Avenue in Orpington in Kent.

Police and fire officials have refused to give any further details on the circumstances of the fire apart from confirming that there were called at just after 11.30pm on late on Monday evening.



The road remains on Police locked down with a swarm of plainclothes detectives who have also been called to the scene.

Police cordon tape has been erected around the property with a single Police officer on scene guard.


The Met Police have refused to confirm if there are any fatalities as a result of the fire.

The spokeswoman for the Met confirmed that officers are at the scene working with the London fire brigade

London Fire brigade say that they were called to a property on Cray Avenue. Just after 11pm on Monday evening, they sent a number of applications from Two Orpington and two Sidcup to deal with the fire.

Fire investigators in paper suits have been seen entering the fire effect property that is currently under Police cordon.

The staircase of the property to the upstairs is a  charred mess that looks like it’s been covered in a flammable liquid that has rapidly spread up the stairs. Investigators have been using a specialist device to check for traces of flammable substances or combustible liquids.


A number of people have been taken to hospital but Police are unable to confirm any details or the numbers


A spokesman for the Met Police said Officers are assisting colleagues from LFB who are dealing with a fire at an address in Cray Avenue, Orpington.

Police received the call at 11.14pm on Monday, 28 May and London Ambulance service also attended.
Occupants of the address have been taken to hospital and we await condition updates.
Cray Avenue has been closed as part of the management of the incident.

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said:” Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a house in Cray Avenue in Orpington.

Part of the ground floor, first floor and part of the stairs of the property were damaged by fire.

The Brigade was called at 11.15pm (Monday, May 27) and the fire was under control at 1231am. Fire crews from Orpington and Sidcup fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
