Teenager arrest made over Ryde armed robbery attempt

A 14-year-old girl from the Ryde area has been arrested by Police on the Isle of Wight.

The arrest follows an armed attempt to rob Duffetts Stores on John Street Ryde in broad daylight whilst wielding a large kitchen knife

The Ryde secondary school girl was sent packing by staff after she produced the knife but later fled empty-handed from the store.

An investigation was launched following positive identification and other positive lines of enquires the girl was arrested by Police.

She remains in custody at Newport Police station.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that a 14-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. She is currently in Police custody.
