The M2 is currently closed from Junction 5 to Junction 6 with delays of at least 30 minutes covering several miles of the eastbound carriageway. This closure is due to a road traffic collision

Diversion route details and guidance is as follows; exit at J5 and follow the route marked with a black circle symbol on local road signs. This will route traffic on to the A249 southbound to J7 of the M20. Traffic should then join the M20 eastbound/coastbound. Exit the M20 at J8 and take the A20 eastbound to Charing. Exit the A20 on to the A252 Faversham Road eastbound. Then take junction with the A251 turn left. Head north on the A251 to meet the M2 at J6.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has also been called to the collision involving an overturned vehicle.

Paramedics and Police are also in attendance.

An off duty doctor and off duty police officer who was already in attendance have given emergency first aid and care to the driver and a second person who was trapped in their vehicle.

Firefighter crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove one of the b posts and a door of the car in order to release the two casualties.

Both casualties were brought out of the car on longboards and handed on to South East Coast Ambulance Service for further care.

The road is likely to remain closed for some time
