A seven year old is fighting for his life after suffering horrific burns when he was set on fire and engulfed by a falling candle at a Christmas carol concert.
Parents at the concert heard his dad screaming “my son!” at the festive event for kids aged held at a Croydon church when the horror unfolded at around 2pm yesterday.
e was airlifted to hospital, while a man and woman are also being treated for less serious burns.
The seven-year-old from Thomas Becket Catholic Primary School in Croydon suffered serious burns during a school carol event at a local church.
One horrified parent said the children had been given candles to hold during the performance when of them fell on the boy — causing him to erupt into flames.
They added: “The kids were walking around with candles as part of the performance when one of the eight-year-olds fell into the pupil in front.
“That set fire to his costume, which was completely engulfed in seconds.”
The head of St Thomas Becket Catholic School Noel Campbell who was at the event along with another staff member run towards the boy using their bear hands to put out the flames that spread rapidly across the boys body.

The mum who was attending sat two rows away from the incident said: “The heads a heroI watch ed him trying to put out the flames with his bear hands. He would do anything for the students.we are all really gutted and its so near christmas. I do hope the little lads going to be ok. I feel for the other lad who ran off screaming. He was very upset.

Police have now cordoned off Our Lady of the Annunciation Church while they investigate.
In a statement issued by the school they said: “Our whole school community is devastated by the incident that occurred at our carol service yesterday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and his family at this difficult time. Following this incident our pupils, staff and families are being given support.”
A statement from the Archdiocese on Thursday said: “The Archdiocese of Southwark was informed of an incident that occurred at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Addiscombe, which led to a child suffering serious burns and two adults also sustaining injuries.
“At this time our thoughts and prayers are with the child and those injured, their families, and the school and parish community. The Archdiocese and school involved are co-operating fully with the ongoing investigation.”
A spokesman from the London Ambulance Service previously said: “We dispatched two ambulance crews, an emergency responder, a medic in a car and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.”
