A crisis meeting has been held by prison governors and the Ministry of Justice following a widespread outbreak of COVID19 within  the local prison in Norwich we can reveal.  

 

An emergency conference call was held on Monday morning following confirmed reports that a large number of inmates have tested positive for the killer virus.

A prison source has revealed that massive testing is about to take place to confirm the number of positive cases within the jail. 

Staff  who have been working over the weekend who have been exposed have also been tested and now await the results.

HMP Norwich has a majority of single cells, with shared accommodation available across the establishment. There are a total of 769 Prisoners housed at the prison on Mousehold Heath in Norwich, 

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said:

“We have robust and flexible plans in place to keep prisoners, staff and the wider public safe based on the latest advice from Public Health England.”
