A small white van, allegedly driven away after a cash box was taken during a security vehicle robbery outside New Eltham post office was stopped by a police vehicle hitting it head on in Footscray Road around 12:15pm on Friday.

The van is said to have contained four people, one of whom allegedly fought with two officers following the crash.

Six people in total were injured, with one of the van’s occupants taken to a major trauma centre. Undercover officers were possibly aware of the robbery in advance.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 12:18pm today (12 June) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a police vehicle on Footscray Road, Sidcup.

“We dispatched an incident response officer, four ambulance crews and a medic in a car to the scene.

“With the first of our medics arriving in under five minutes. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We assessed seven people at the scene. We took six to hospital and one to a major trauma centre.”
