Detectives from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command have arrested a 22 year old man on suspicion of encouraging terrorism, contrary to section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006, and dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
They arrested the man at Stanstead Airport at approx. 5.30pm on Monday, 12 October, after stopping him under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The man, arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, was taken into custody at a central London police station.
He was subsequently further arrested under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 at approximately 03.00hrs yesterday, Wednesday, 14 October, on suspicion of collection of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Later that same day, detectives were granted a warrant of further detention at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, allowing them to detain the man until the warrant expires on Monday, 19 October.
