A nurse accused of the murders of eight babies connected to a hospital neonatal unit over a period of 12 months

The names of the eight babies who died were confirmed this morning at Warrington Magistrates Court, where 30-year-old Lucy Letby appeared by video-link from Blacon police station in Chester.
They are Cemlyn Bennett, Joseph Johnson, Elsie McNall, Barney Gee, Daisy Parkin, Maddie Freed, Joseph Gelder and Eli Gelder, all aged under one year old.
Letby is charged with eight murders. 10 other charges of attempted murder each relate to children under the age of one, including Maddie Freed.
The alleged murders and attempted murders relate to a period from June 2015 to June 2016 .
The hearing today lasted for just 12 minutes and at the end of it Letby was remanded in custody.
She will appear at Chester Crown Court for a further hearing today
The alleged murders cover a period starting in June 2015, with three alleged to have taken place in that month, one in August, one in October, one in February 2016, and two in June 2016 .
Letby spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and her home address in Hereford.
District Judge Nicholas Sanders imposed an order restricting the reporting of the names of the surviving babies subject to the attempted murder charge.
