Police are currently controlling the traffic at the junction of New Road and Kingston Road whilst fire crews from Southsea make the area safe.

The owner of Tony’s food store said, “I was upstairs in my flat while workers were downstairs and I heard a loud crash and at first I thought the scaffolding had fallen. It  sounded like a bomb going off. The worker came running upstairs saying a customer had nearly been hit by a car that had crashed through the barriers and nearly into the shop. It was all very scary. I am just so glad everyone was okay.”

The VW Touran was wedged between a barrier and the shop. Fire figthers are  attempting to make the area safe whilst Police direct traffic. Fire fighters have removed a section of the barrier to free the car so it can be recovered.
Specialists from Boarhunt Garage have winched the damaged vehicle onto the accident recovery unit. The traffic in and around the area is slowly getting back to normal.
