Armed Police descended on to Welch Road in Gosport this afternoon after reports of a stabbing.
The incident took place just after 5pm (Tuesday 23May). Police sealed off both ends of Welch Road with cordon tape. Officers stood guard while armed officers and a dog attended the incident. A man was detained and two large knives were recovered from a house.
A land ambulance and air ambulance was sent to the scene The air ambulance landed at Brockhurst Primary School. A man has been taken from the scene to hospital. Resident, Lorraine Aldfred said, “This is in my road and I have lived here 10 years and nothing like this has happened before. What has been written on social media is not correct, this is not what happened. The man stabbed himself – he needs mental help hopefully he will now get this,.”
Another resident who did not want to be named, said, “They saw a man with Police who had a taser drawn but it was not fired at the man. It was all pretty scary because at first we thought it was a knife attack.”
Police have confirmed one man sustained self-inflicted injuries. He is said to be in a stable condition at Queen Alexandra hospital in Cosham
