The trio of good Samaritans performed CPR after the crash on Winston Churchill Avenue in Portsmouth, the incident happened just after 7.30pm.
A passing Mountjoy employee who work on behalf Portsmouth City Council was on his way home from an out of hours call out with his friend as they and a former nursing assistant witnessed the driver lose control and went to give aid to the trapped driver.
Passers by have described the actions of the trio as heroic as the two men dragged the driver out of the car after smashing the back window of the vehicle. The trio then performed CPR on the driver for about ten minutes before the arrival of the emergency services at crash scene.
The serious ill driver was than rushed to hospital by ambulance.
The road remained closed for a number of hours as police officer from the Havant based Roads Policing unit carried collision investigation work.
Fire crews from near by Southsea fire station attended and made the vehicle and the area safe.
A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said ‘The driver of the vehicle remain in a critical but stable condition in hospital”’
A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service praised the efforts of Good Samaritan’s who offered the casualty a fighting chance of survival.The spokeswomen went on to say they send a number of resources to the scene, which including an ambulance officer,rapid response paramedic and an ambulance.
