Hampshire Fire and Rescue is asking residents near the centre to close their windows and doors due to the high volume of smoke.
Fire Crews are likely to be at the Biffa recycling for at least 24 hours tackling the blaze involving 450 tons of rubbish. Fire fighters are breaking windows on the sides of the building to vent the unit that is approx 90 meters by 60 metes wide. Fire crews efforts are being hampered due to the nature of the waste and the piles being approx 18-20 foot high. Fire commanders in charge of the incident have said they ave called in diggers in an attempt to extinguish the blaze as black smoke continues to pour from the building
