A  emergency operation has been on going for nearly 12 hours after a man was spotted on a roof in Southampton.

Emergency services have been on the scene overnight since 9.30pm last night.

Police Officers from Hampshire Police have been at a block of flats in Bursledon Road, Bitterne, since last night.
A police cordon has been set up in the block of flats.
Fire crews from Hightown Fire Station were called to provide their aerial ladder platform to assist the police.

Member of the public along the busy road and local shoppers in the retail park can see the man walking around on top of the four-storey building.

Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service are on standby.

Residents are being asked not to engage with the man who has been calling out to people on the street.

UPDATE :The man has been throwing tiles from the roof and Police have now closed both lanes of Bursledon  Road. Traffic is slowly being turn around and is at a stand still. The public are being asked to now stay away from the  building . Fire crews and Police have taken in fire extinguishers.

The man who has been named as Josh has now been on the roof for over 15 hours. The man is armed with a wooden stake and a screwdriver.  The man has now damaged a metal pole holding up a satellite dish and has threaten fire officers  with it.
