A Fire has ripped through a block of flats in Newport this afternoon. Six fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform were called to the blaze that broke just after 4pm this afternoon (Wednesday 28th)

Crews from Newport,Cowes,Ryde and East Cowes raced to the West Street in Newport after multiple calls from shoppers and flat owners as flames licked the roof of the building and smoke poured from the roof of the multi dwelling property.
A spokeswoman from Isle of Wight Fire and rescue said “We were called just after 4pm to a property fire in West Street. Crew have reported that the roof of the property is well alight and fire fighters are likely to remain at the property for some time. Crews from Newport, Ryde, East Cowes and Cowes are tackling the blaze, at the block of flats”
No one has been thought to have been hurt in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is thought tobeen electrical related.
