A Police car and four other private cars have been torched following an arson attack in Gosport this evening (Sunday 9th October 2016).

The Police car burst into flames just after 10pm in the middle of Foster Road in Gosport on the one way system just yards from where pensioner Roy Galvin, 69, was killed following a dispute with a cyclist in Bury Road last month. Fire Crews from Gosport were called to extinguish the flames using one high pressure hose reel.

Four other vehicles parked on driveways on Foster Road, Anglesea Road, Linden Grove and Alverstoke Road have also been set on fire using lighter fluid which again have been put out by the fire service through out the evening. The incidents started unfolding just after 7.30pm Sunday evening. Witnesses in nearby properties who saw the attacks unfold said that a man was put in a police van and taken away from the scene. It is believed that one person has been arrested and is currently being questioned by Police over the attacks.

Hampshire Police have released the following appeal:

We are currently investigating a series of arsons in Gosport where parked cars were set alight. The incidents happened on the evening of Sunday, October 9.

The reported incidents are as follows:

7.25pm a grey Audi A3 we set on fire on Foster Road.
7.45pm a Grey Jeep Cherokee was set on fire in Linden Grove
9.20pm a silver Mercedes E280 was set on fire on Foster Road
10.20pm a Ford Focus marked police car set on fire on Foster Road.

Detective Constable Chris Hudson, said: “We are appealing for information about these incidents to come forward. Did you see or hear anything suspicious?

“I am also keen to hear from any members of the community who may have private CCTV. If you do have your own private CCTV, please contact us as soon as possible.”
