Part of the M20 has been closed due to a car fire.
Emergency crews dealt with the blaze between junctions 11 and 10.
The road has been blocked after a Kent Roads Policing Patrol car caught fire in rush hour traffic on the busy motorway. The two officers on board managed to escape without injury.
The closure is not expected to be lifted for at least the next few hours as traffic is reported to be building in the area.
Huge queues built up along the Londonbound carriageway near Ashford this afternoon.
Plumes of black smoke filled the sky with the car completely ablaze just after 4pm. But officers have already made light of the incident after the two officers managed to escape the BMW patrol car.
A fire service spokesman said: “The M20 was closed while firefighters tackled a fire which had taken hold of a car between junctions 11 and 10.
“While a Highways England patrol managed the road closure, fire crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze with a hose reel jet.
“There are no reports of any injuries. Unfortunately, the car was completely destroyed by the fire.”
