Investigations are continuing following a fatal collision on Eastern Road this morning.
Police appealing for witnesses following the fatal accident which saw road shut in both directions in Portmsouth
The incident happened just after 6.30am this morning (26th October) involving a council contractor pickup truck and a white scooter.
The man was rushed to hospital by land ambulance following the collision.
Eastern Road was closed for several hours while investigation work was carried out at the scene.
Emergency crews were called to East Shore Road at around 6.30am on after reports of a collision between a motorbike and a truck.
An ambulance and a senior paramedic officer were sent to the scene while the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was also initially called out before being stood down.
The motorcyclist, a 52-year-old man from Gosport , was treated by paramedics, but despite their best efforts he died at hospital from his injuries.
Appealing from the scene, Inspector Darren Ord from the Eastern Division Roads Policing for Hampshire Constabulary based at Havant, said that he would be interested in speaking to witnesses who may have seen the collision. He said, “I would appeal to drivers who may have witnessed the collision between the yellow truck and scooter who have not yet made themselves known to us to contact us. I am particularly interested in speaking to drivers who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision and their manner of driving.”
He also said that he would like to ask drivers to come forward if they had captured it on their in-car camera.
Eastern Road was closed at the height of rush hour for four hours while police investigated the collision.
A spokesman for South Coast Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called to a medical emergency in East Shore Road just after 6.30am this morning. We sent an ambulance and a rapid response paramedic to the scene.
