A pedestrian who suffered serious injuries following a collision with a car in Haslemere yesterday (Monday, 31 October) has sadly died.The 90-year-old man was at the junction of the High Street and Shepherds Hill just before 12.50pm when he was involved a collision with a blue Nissan Micra.
Angela French, owner of Objets d’Art jewellery store, said she saw the man trying to cross the road.
“He went over the top of the car,” she said, adding that he was “lucky” the vehicle going in the opposite direction managed to stop in time.
“People rushed to help,” she said. “I called the ambulance, which arrived very quickly onto the scene along with the police.”
Emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with serious head injuries where he later died.
The man’s next of kin have been informed.
Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the events leading up to it to come forward as a matter of urgency.
