The Family of A ‘wonderful’ childminder died in a freak accident when the scarf she was wearing got trapped in the rear wheel of a beach buggy she was travelling in have paid tribute to her as first reported
Gillian Sandle, 62, of Hayling Island, Hampshire, was riding in the open-topped blue Volkswagen beach buggy less than a mile from the sea when her flailing scarf became entangled.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene in Havant and the woman was taken to hospital nearby by ambulance.

But despite the efforts of both paramedics and doctors, police today confirmed she had died.
They are currently not treating her death as suspicious, but enquiries are ongoing.
A tribute released by her family through police said: ‘As a family we’re totally devastated at the sudden and tragic loss of such a wonderful lady.
‘This is very hard to come to terms with, and we ask that as a family we are left alone to grieve.’
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘A female passenger of a blue Volkswagen beach buggy sadly died after her scarf was caught in the rear wheel of the vehicle.
She added: ‘The driver, who was a man in 60s, was not injured.’
It is understood the vehicle, which is designed for both road use and to be driven on sand thanks to its larger and wider wheels, was a two-seater.
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called to reports of a woman who had been injured while using an open-top vehicle.
‘The 65-year-old female had a scarf wrapped around her neck and had become trapped in the vehicle.
‘We sent a rapid-response paramedic and an ambulance to the scene.
‘The patient was treated at the scene by crews. The woman was rushed to Queen Alexandra hospital in Cosham.’
Police are appealing for information after a woman tragically died following an incident in Havant.
At some time between 12.35pm and 12.40pm on Sunday, December 18 62-year-old Gillian Sandle of Tournerbury Lane, Hayling Island was a passenger in a blue Volkswagen beach buggy that was being driven along North Street.
The woman’s scarf got caught in the wheel of the vehicle.
Members of the public carried out CPR on the woman at the scene before she was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital by ambulance. Sadly, she died at hospital.
Sergeant Melanie Adcock, said: “This incident took place at a busy time of day when there were lots of Christmas shoppers in North Street so it is likely many people saw what happened. I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of this incident.”
Mrs Sandle’s family have issued the following statement: “As a family we are totally devastated at the sudden and tragic loss of such a wonderful lady. This is very hard to come to terms with, and we ask that as a family we are left alone to grieve.”
