The 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene in Pier Street by Police on Christmas morning following what is believed to a one punch attack that had broken out after the man recognised the custodian. Despite the efforts of emergency paramedics and Police, the man’s life couldn’t be saved and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other man also remain in custody also on suspicion of murder.
Detectives have until 1am on Tuesday to charge the man. It is understood that the Island’s Police superintendent Sarah Jackson has authorised for the man to kept in custody for 36 hours. When cops will have to charge or have to ask the permission of the Isle of Wight magistrates court if they want to quiz the man further.
Police are still appealing for information and witnesses to contact them if they were in the vicinity of the Rose Inn on Christmas Eve night around the time of the incident as they could hold information which could assist our investigation.
