A section of the A35 remains closed this evening whilst police carry out investigations after a man who had believed to have stopped to aid a crashed vehicle was hit by a second vehicle. Police have closed the A35 both in direction to assist collision investigators.
Despite the efforts of Rapid response paramedics the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The collision occurred on an unlit section of the A35 near the junction of Holmsley Road just after 5pm.(Tuesday).
It is understood that the man had stopped to help with a vehicle which had crashed at the same location, but was then himself involved in a collision with a second vehicle.
Officers from Totton Roads Policing are diverting traffic off the A35 and onto the B3058 towards Bashley and New Milton.
A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said ‘ Sadly the pedestrian, a 71 year-old man from Bournemouth who was directing traffic, died at the scene following the collision which took place at around 5:20pm.
The A35 at Burley will be closed for a considerable amount of time this evening to allow a thorough investigation to take place. Drivers are asked to consider other routes’.
