Police and emergency workers have been called to junction 9 of the M3 Winnall, on the junction near to Spitfire Link following a large goods vehicle over turning. 

It is understood that Cooperative Heavy goods vehicle    left A34 to enter the roundabout and over turned. All lanes are blocked entering the roundabout, drivers are reporting long delays on southbound A34. 
Three Fire crews from Winchester,Alton and Redbridge were mobilised to the scene along with Police and Highways England just after 1.20pm on Saturday. 

A fire service enivormently unit from Alton was also sent to the scene  as it was reported that the lorry  was leaking fuel. 

Despite serious damage to vehicle the driver escaped with cuts and bruises. Officers from Hampshire  roads policing based at Totton who are at the scene have advised that the two lanes on the Winnall Roundabout  have been reopened but will be closed when a crane and recovery contracts arrive. Drivers wishing to access the Southbound M3 from the A34 will be diverted via junction 10 us no Spitfire Link.

Twenty meters of crash barrier have also been damaged and will need to be replaced. Police have requested drivers to avoid the area and try to seek an  alternative routes.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: “A lorry has overturned but fortunately there was no one trapped inside.

“We are just trying to sort out the diesel spillage to protect the environment.”
