Wightlink ferry on fire off Isle of Wight

A fire has broken out on a Wightlink ferry as it crossed the Solent.

The Lee-on-the-Solent coastguard said the fire was on the bridge wing and not an area where passengers are.

It is not yet know if anyone onboard has been injured in the blaze.

The ship was heading to Fishbourne when the emergency call was made to the fire service just after 9.30am.

An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said two fire engines from Ryde were called to the port, and the Coastguard and Marine Police were standing by.
