A fire has broken out on the 12th floor of a Tower Block in the Redbridge part of city. It is understood that the fire broke out in the kitchen area of the highrise. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service have said that they currently have fifty Firefighters from across the city tackling the blaze that can be seen far and wide around the city. They received a number of call to say that the a severe fire had broken out in the tower block on Cuckmere Lane just after 5pm on Sunday afternoon.
Seven ambulances Twenty police officers and Ten fire crews have been called to the incident that has broken out in the 19 storey tower block that was built in the early 1960s.

Concerned neighbours raised the alarm after smoke filled the corridors on the 12th and 13th floors. One resident described how he was led through acrid smoke to escape from the incident. The Property on fire has been totally gutted by the fire we heard the windows blowing out as the fire services arrived
The fire has broken out shortly after the Seven Year anniversary of the Shirley Towers fire where Two Firefighters Alan Bannon and James Shears where killed tackling the blaze that broken out after becoming entrapped in cabling that had fallen from the ceiling with flat.
Many worried family members and friends gathered near the tower but Police have cordoned off a large area around the block. Hampshire Fire and Rescue have also been giving out safety advised to those affected by the blaze. Resident are being told to stay put. It has been suggested by a neighbour that the fire may have been started by a candle
Ten Pumps and an aerial ladder platform have also been sent to the scene along with other command and support vehicles. It is yet to be confirmed if the resident escaped injuries. The incident being treated as major incident. Hampshire Fire and Rescue are also being supported by partner agencies Hampshire Police who are trying to keep back local resident whilst crews deal with the incident. South Central ambulance have also sent alo number of resources to the blaze including the Hazard Area Response team.
UPDATE: Hampshire Fire and Rescue have confirmed that everyone involved in the incident are safe and uninjured they were called shortly after 5.30pm today (Sunday 9 April) to a report of a fire in a flat in Redbridge Towers on Cuckmere Lane.
Police have also been working with HFRS to ensure residents in the block and in surrounding buildings are kept safe while the fire is controlled.
Roads have had to close nearby roads temporarily to ensure emergency services can access the tower block quickly and easily. The fire is now out. A cordon remains in place around the building. nNo has been reported as seriously injured although some residents have been treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
The fire was contained within one flat which has resulted in it being severely damaged. Police will be conducting a joint investigation with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire. Accommodation and refuge will be offered to those who need it.
