Police have closed Eastern Road outside the Good Companion Pub in Portsmouth this lunchtime following a serious road traffic collision. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air ambulance has also been send to the scene and has landed of the carriageway. Traffic in and and around the area is at a stand still. Police and Paramedics are also at the scene. It is understood that the incident happened just after 12.30 Tuesday lunchtime near to the junction of Velder Ave and Eastern Road. A car has have been in collision with a motorcyclist. The motorcyclists has been thrown from his machine and has been seriously injured following the collision. Police are turning vehicles away from the scene. It is understood that the road is likely to be closed to sometime to allow for accident investigation work to take place by officers from the Hampshire Road Policing. A spokeswoman said police received a call of reports of a collision between a Volkswagen car and a motorcycle. The air ambulance landed by the road and the male motorcyclist has been flown to Southampton General Hospital. The man’s condition is ‘potentially life-threatening’. Police are asking motorists to avoid the area. Stagecoach South tweeted that their 21 service is being delayed in the Copnor area as traffic diverts away from the road closure.
