Two teenage boys from Epsom were arrested earlier today (19 April), after attacking a cyclist with a machete.
The cyclist, who was left with a two inch cut to his eye following the attack, was cycling home from his girlfriend’s house just after midnight and was near the junction of Jubilee Way and Old Kingston Road when a moped with two people on board drove past him. The moped turned around before mounting the cycle path behind the cyclist, causing him to turn around. The moped riders asked the cyclist where he hung around before pulling out a machete and striking him to his left eye.
The cyclist was taken to Epsom General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
The two teenage boys remain in custody and enquiries remain ongoing.
Epsom and Ewell Neighbourhood Inspector Jackie Elkins said: “This was a nasty, unprovoked attack on an innocent man who was simply on his way home from visiting his girlfriend. He has suffered a deep gash to his left eye and been left extremely distressed as a result of the incident. We are urging people to come forward if they have any information which could assist our enquiries.”
