Detectives have launched a murder enquiry following the death of a man from Southampton

Jason Gregory, 44, from Millers Pond Gardens, Southampton was admitted to hospital following a suspected cardiac arrest after a public order incident occurred on Vernon Walk last weekend between 11.45pm on Friday 5 May and 12.45am on Saturday 6 May.

He has since died in hospital.

His family have provided the following statement.

Partner Melanie Stacey said: “Jason was a good, hardworking family man and a father to four. Please could anyone with any information about what happened to Jason contact the police. We respectfully request privacy at this time.”

Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Team previously questioned two men in connection with the incident and appealed for witnesses and to those people who may have filmed the incident on their smart phone.

One of the men, a 25-year-old man from Southampton, has been further arrested today (11 May) on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector John McGonigle said: “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who was in the vicinity of Vernon Walk, London Road and Winchester Street between these times.

“It was a busy Friday night and we believe a lot of people may have seen what happened or may be able to offer information that can assist us in ascertaining the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have footage of what happened. Please get in contact by calling 101 and quoting Operation Norland.”
