Emergency Services are asking for people to avoid Quatermaine Road whilst they deal with a fire at a business premises.
They further warn Hilsea residents to close their windows.
“We’re currently in attendance at a recycling plant fire in Portsmouth. If you travel to work or school via Quartremaine Road please avoid the area to allow access for our crews,” a Hampshire Fire Service spokesman said.
“If you live nearby in the Hilsea area please close your windows and doors,” they added.
It is believed the fire started just before 6am. The spokesperson said it received a call at about 5.45am to with a report of between seven and 10 tonnes of recycling waste on fire.

It sent two crews from Cosham and Southsea, and one from Havant, Fareham and Portchester.

Crews used breathing apparatus and hose reels to dampen the flames.

The spokesperson added that the incident was being treated as a ‘small fire’.
