Police officers, including armed police and a dog unit have raided a block of flats on Hayling Island tonight.

The drama unfolded just after 10.30pm this evening when a convoy of police vehicles descended on Winsor Close on the Island.

Police in full riot gear jumped out of an unmarked white Mercedes van and were quickly joined by armed officers from two BMW X5.

Two dozen officers surrounded the entrance to the property shouting for the occupant of a ground floor flat, a male, to get on the floor before storming the property.

Neighbours were cautioned to stay in their homes as the incident developed and were assured by one officer, “There is nothing for you to worry about.”

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘Police visited an address to seize a vehicle they believed was involved in three incidents of road traffic collision.
