Officers investigating the circumstances around a 45-year-old man sustaining significant injuries in the Guildhall area on Monday (31 July) have made an arrest.
The victim was found unconscious near the Civic Offices, on a walkway leading to Isambard Brunel Road. He was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital in a critical condition.
He sustained a bleed to the brain and fractures to his skull, facial bones and ribs.
A 19-year-old man from Southsea has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in police custody at this time.
