A massive fire ripped through a house in Lee on the Solent early on Wednesday morning,
Firefighters from Gosport, Fareham and an aerial ladder were mobilised to the property fire at Osprey Gardens. Their was a slight delay due to the heavy traffic that was leaving following the arrival of the HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier.
It is understood the fire started just before 8am. The woman who was cooking managed to get out of the property and raise the alarm is was unhurt but she has lost everything as have her family after the property was 100% damaged by the fire. The Severe damage was caused to the property after a toaster failed to switch off and set alight to the kitchen at the rear of the property. The three crews were committed into the property using a hose reel and two jets to put out the blaze that burn plasterboard from the roof and walls of the property.
Watch Manger Rob Dellow said:”On arrival, crews confirmed there was a fire in the kitchen and used six breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the flames.
“A fire investigation is being conducted today to determine the cause of the fire but we believed that the fire started in a faulty toaster.
“There was a well-developed fire that we could see when we first entered the estate. Crews were committed to fight the fire [from inside] they were concerned about the ceiling falling in due to the heat within the property.
“It was quite a challenging fire for the firefighters to deal with,” he said. “They worked really well together.”
