Major Fire breaks out at Packaging Warehouse in Basildon

Essex fire and rescue have been called to a large fire at Festival leisure Basildon in Essex. Police have closed the A127 in both directions, Westbound off at Mayflower and Eastbound at the A176. There are a large amount of emergency vehicles attending the incident.
Resident have reported hearing a number of loud bangs. It is understood the fire broke out just after 12.20am on Sunday morning.

A building is on fire and has collapsed next to the Quays pub on festival leisure park. Two further explosions and plumes of thick smoke over can now be seen over Basildon. It is understood that there are 100 fire fighters at the scene with the following resources have been sent to the incident:2 x Basildon, 1 x Wickford, 1 x Rayleigh Weir, 1 x Corringham, 1 x Orsett, 2 x Brentwood, 1 x Leigh, 1 x Epping, 1 x Ingatestone, 1 x Canvey, 1 x Maldon, 1 x South Woodham, 1 x Chelmsford (Water Bowser), 1 x Southend (ALP), 1 x Grays (ALP), USAR
A spokeswoman from Essex fire and rescue said:”Fifteen fire engines and a number of specialist appliances are at the scene of a large fire at packaging warehouse in Basildon.

The warehouse, which measures approximately 100m x 50m, is completely alight and the fire is also affecting the next door warehouse.

Firefighters are working hard to bring the fire under control.
