Police are already on high alert due to the terror attacks in other parts of the UK.
It is understood that Armed police officers will be patrolling the event all week that is expected to attract 30,000 people.
Police say this is not cause for concern, rather a way to keep people safe and provide a reassuring presence.
As always, we have a strong policing operation in place and are working closely with the staff and security team at the Event, Portsmouth council to ensure people can enjoy themselves and get there and back safely.
Additional security checks are taking place, so attendees to this weekend festival are encouraged to arrive early to allow plenty of time for this.
Everyone will be thoroughly searched before going into the venue and they have asked for people not to bring bags with them to avoid any delays.
Large bags of sand have also been placed at all the entrances to stop vehicle trying to enter
