A lorry driver has been airlifted to hospital after being pinned and trapped in his cab on the A339 near Alton for nearly four hours. Emergency services rushed to the scene after a resident on the near to waterworks corner heard a loud crash and the driver screaming for help.
Police officers from Whitchurch who are part of the Hampshire Roads Policing unit closed the road in both directions just after 1pm this afternoon(Tuesday September 26th) . A Hart team from South Central Ambulance Service the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance were called to support fire crews from Eastleigh, Basingstoke and Alton. Due to the complex rescue and the stability of the HGV Hampshire fire an rescue mobilised their Urban Search and Rescue team to free the trapped driver of the large good vehicle that was loaded with sand.

Hampshire Police have said : We’re currently dealing with an overturned lorry on the A339 at Shalden.
The road is impassable due to the position of the lorry and the road has therefore had to be closed.
The A339 is closed between the junctions with The Avenue and Whitedown Lane and is likely to remain closed until around 7.15pm. Diversions are in place.
One person has been injured and emergency services are on scene dealing with the incident.
