Detectives investigating an assault on a 28-year-old man in Stag Hill, Basingstoke, have made an arrest.

The incident took place at around 8.30am on Saturday 28 October. The victim was taken to North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke but was later discharged.

A 21-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in police custody.

Two unknown men approached him and asked for a lift.

When he refused, the two men assaulted him. During the assault, the victim was shot in the face and the back with what has been described as a BB gun.

The men then ran off.

The victim was taken to North Hampshire Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not life threatening.

One of the men is described as:

• white
• aged between 25 and 30 years
• around 6ft 2ins tall
• of skinny build
• very pale complexion
• receding, short, jet black hair with a scruffy beard
• wearing a black hooded top, with white detailing on the sleeves, and black tracksuit bottoms

The other man is described as:

• white
• aged 25 to 30 years
• around 5ft 10ins tall
• of stocky build
• having a tattoo or mark below his right eye
• full beard
• blonde or ginger hair
• wearing a green or grey hooded top

Detective Inspector Lee Colvin said: “This was a nasty assault involving a weapon which could have had far more serious consequences than it did.

“We want to trace those responsible. Were you in Stag Hill this morning? Do you recognise the two men from the descriptions given? Any information you may have could be vital, so please contact us.

“Officers will be in Stag Hill today as part of their enquiries.”
