Prison Service officials say they are currently managing an ongoing incident at HMP Swaleside. They say a small number of prisoners are involved, isolated to one wing and no risk to the public. It is understood that Emergency response teams have been called to an incident at a Sheppey prison.
Several police cars and two Tornado Squad rapid response vans were seen racing to HMP Swaleside at Eastchurch this afternoon.
The incident is contained to one landing on one of the prison wings. The rest of the prison is secure with all prisoners in locked in cells.”
A prison service spokesman said: “We are currently managing an ongoing incident at HMP Swaleside.
“We are absolutely clear that offenders who behave in this way will be punished and face spending extra time behind bars.”
