Fire crews and Animal rescue specialists free trapped Horse

HAMPSHIRE Fire fighters were called to a horse in distress trapped over a bar inside a horsebox on Little Moorgreen stables in Burnett’s Lane, West End, Southampton.
At approximately 13.45hrs on the 17th February 2018, after receiving a call to the trapped and distressed horse, Five fire vehicles were sent to the scene from stations at Brockenhurst, Hightown and also included the Specialist Animal rescue team based at Winchester.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and rescue said; We were called to a horse trapped and distressed, with the help of the specialist fire service’s Animal Rescue team and a vet from Alton on scene we were able to carefully sedate and successfully extract the horse from the horsebox using cutting devices, the horse is fit and well. This shows the great efforts by our teams to respond to situations of this nature with a positive and successful result.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue team includes animal rescue specialists who come from rural backgrounds and have many years experience of handling livestock. They attend incidents involving animals to advise the Officer in Charge on matters of health and safety, animal welfare and rescue techniques.

Team members are trained in animal psychology, how to handle different species and how to react to an animal in distress and train regularly under the guidance of the animal rescue specialists.
