The incident on the #A31 was declared a major incident at 8.30pm. Police have now taken the lead for this incident and they have called on the military and other partners to assist in rescuing drivers. Police currently dealing with a build-up of traffic on the A31, due to the severe weather conditions. Both the eastbound and westbound carriageways are blocked .
Police have requested military assistance and are on scene with our partners and are working to get people out as soon as possible. Rest centres are being set up by Hampshire County Council and food and drink is being taken to those who are stranded.
