Rumours have been spreading across social media
Cruel reports of acid attacks across the UK have been confirmed false by police.
Posts on social media have been suggesting people are most at risk of a random acid attack when sat in traffic.
The frightening posts have been seen on Facebook, with people sharing a post from Facebook.
The post was shared from the page nearly 1,900 times in just the three days it has been up.
It read: “There has been reports of acid attacks in Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester and Luton.
“People are going up to cars at traffic lights and knocking on the window and for some reason throwing acid on their face.
“So please do not open the window, no matter how helpless the person looks.
“Please tell every one, friends and family who you know,it may save a life.
However West Midlands Police have confirmed these rumours are false.
They said: “We have had multiple calls about this, but there hasn’t been any incidents.
“These posts appear to be false.”
