Man seriously assaulted in London

Police are investigating and appealing for information after a male was seriously assaulted in the EC1 area and left with life-threatening injuries.

Police were called by LAS at 3.45am on Saturday, 19 May following reports of a male suffering from serious head and facial injuries in Saffron Hill, EC1N.

Officers attended the scene.

Officers are working to establish how the male came to sustain his injuries; it is thought he was assaulted an uknown person or group who then fled the scene.

The victim, believed to be aged 51, was conveyed to an east London hospital where he remains in a critical condition. They are working to inform his family.

A crime scene is in place.

There have been no arrests.

Road closures are in place.

Police are interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen an Asian male, aged in his late teens to early 20s, of medium build in the Portpool Lane area shortly after this incident.

He was reported as wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans, a Gucci hat and Nike Airmax trainers and was carrying a white carrier bag.

Anyone with information or any witnesses are asked to call police on 101 quoting 1145 of 19 May.
