Maidstone Pedo Jailed for Ten Year after attacking Two vulnerable young children

A 10 year sentence has been handed to a man formerly of Maidstone for sexually abusing two children.

Charles Stevens of Hawkers Cove, Padstow was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 18 May 2018 after he was found guilty of multiple child sex offences.

The offences were committed between 1975 and 1986, and Stevens was arrested on 17 March 2017 after a woman approached Kent Police. A second woman came forward later that year with further allegations against Stevens and he was charged with non-recent sex offences against two children.

Stevens, 72, denied all the charges and was found guilty by the jury after an eight day trial.

He will serve 10 years in jail with an extended licence of 10 years. In addition, he was put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Samuel Trevena said: ‘Stevens repeatedly abused two vulnerable young children who have been traumatised for many years.

‘I would particularly like to commend the victims for their bravery in coming forwards to report their ordeal and assisting the investigation. I hope the conclusion of this case and the sentence passed may provide some closure for them.

‘I would encourage anyone who is a victim of sexual abuse, no matter when it happened, to get in touch with Kent Police. You will have our full support and we will always investigate crimes sensitively and professionally.’
