Police called to Newport Library after man tried grabbing young girls

Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and the Isle of Wight ambulance have been called to Newport library on the Isle of Wight this evening. it is understood that the man who was in drink attempted to approach a group of young children. The man than attempted to grab some of the young girls. Some of the group than pushed the man away who than fell on the ground. It is understood that Police have spoken to both the drunk father and a second person was also spoken The man was treated by paramedics for a cut to the rear of his head.

Police say they were called to Orchard Street at 5.41pm, where they spoke to the 51 year old and another man, aged 19.

A community resolution, which usually involves an apology in the case of minor incidents, avoiding criminal proceedings, was agreed between the two parties.
