Fire crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service have used cutting equipment to free a man from his van following a head on collision near lake this morning. Emergency crews were called just 11.30am to Sandown Road at Apse Heath.
Police have closed the road in both direction whilst firefighters use specialist spreading and cutting equipment to remove the door and front windscreen of the van to create space to free the trapped driver. The driver injuries are thought to be serious.

Two people have been rushed to hospital following the collision involving a black Toyota Aygo and a small white van.
Two fire appliances from Newport and Sandown and multiple ambulances and Police are on scene near the incident at Sandown Airport and Apse Heath roundabout
The Thames Valley air ambulance has also been mobilised to the incident that is being classed as serious. Sandown Road is expected to remain closed for sometime whist investigations are carried out and recovery of both vehicles is arranged.
