The Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service are responding to a plane crash at Bembridge Airport this afternoon (Thursday).

Appliances from multiple stations are en-route to the scene.

Two people a man and a woman are currently trapped in the wreckage of the two seater pug.

Emergency are struggling to gain access with equipment to the pair who are trapped in the wreckage. Fire crews are trying to use a Land Rover to gain access to the crash scene.

We understood that the pilot swerved to avoid power line and clipped the lines before crash landing into marsh land

One person has been freed and a second air ambulance has been requested for the pilot who is still trapped in the wreckage both are thought to have serious injuries.

Police, fire and ambulance teams have gain access to the remote location of the casualties on Brading Marshes in an area roughly known as Centurion Woods.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: Officers are currently at the scene of a light aircraft crash on the Isle of Wight.

Police were called to the incident, which happened just outside Bembridge Airport, at 3.50pm this afternoon (Thursday 12 July).

The pilot and passenger, a man and a woman, have sustained serious injuries and have been taken to Southampton General Hospital by Air Ambulance.

Inspector Adam Henderson-Parish, said: “This afternoon we have worked closely with our colleagues from the fire and ambulance services. We remain at the scene and are liaising with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.”
