The teenager at the centre of the Cowes stabbing is this lunchtime continuing to recover in hospital after he was attacked by three men who are understood to be from Newport. The 18-year-old named as Travis Whittington is studying Carpentry at the Isle of Wight College in Newport on the Island. The large cordon remains in place as detectives piece together the events of last night. Officers are appealing for residents to contact with any information they have to contact them. It is understood that the men are still outstanding as well as the weapon used to attack the young man. Police have yet to released what the motive is for the stabbing as the trainee carpenter from Cowes recovers from two stab wounds and a punctured lung. Claims have been made on social media that the three men are Newport who carried out the attack.l along with further attack a couple of weeks ago.

Resident in the effected roads have been speaking out: One man said: “I am not surprised at all to be honest. This is all down to the cut they have made to the services”
“I have been living here for years but my partner and I are thinking of moving away from the area now.
“I got attacked not long ago, just a few streets along from this one, so it does not surprise me what has happened.

An other said: “It was such a terrible thing to happen and it is something that has shocked the local community.

“Obviously the news has spread like wildfire and there has been a lot of rumours around the circumstances of the stabbing. I hope the Police catch whoever did”.

Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that an 18-year-old male from Cowes has sustained 2 stab wounds to his back.

Detective Sergeant Roger Whitewick has said:

“This was a serious assault which happened in a residential area.

“We believe there are people living in this area who may have witnessed the assault, or the events leading up to it. I am appealing for these people to come forward with any information they may have to assist us.

“Did you see anything out of the ordinary, or a group of people acting suspiciously in your local area? Please call us if you saw anything.

“Neighbourhood officers will be in the area over the coming days carrying out further work, so if you have any concerns please speak with one of our officers.”

It’s thought a number of people are wanted in connection with the serious assault. Police have not mentioned any arrests thus far.

A local resident has spoken to Island Echo and said that they heard a number of people running and shouting in a ‘panicked’ state, before driving off in a car.
